Nerd News Roundup

Can I just say again how much I love this show? Despite the CW-cheese that sometimes leaks it, it is consistently good and entertaining. I’ve never been happier to be wrong about a show.

And it’s doing a much better job of building a coherent DC live action universe than anything the movie guys are doing.

We’ve already heard plans to add the Flash for a couple of episodes and then a spin-off. We heard about them incorporating the League of Assassins from the Batman mythos, and now we’re getting Amanda Waller.

Episode 2.06 of Arrow will be called “Keep Your Enemies Closer

This episode will see the introduction of recurring character Amanda Waller who is an agent of A.R.G.U.S. who sends out a team to kidnap Diggle.

If you’re not familiar with Waller, think Nick Fury, but tougher. Here’s her wiki link.

(Just to keep score and show that we all have the proper perspective in life, BTW the wiki for Waller is 3,863 words long, while the wiki for her closest real life counterpart, General Keith Alexander director of the NSA has a wiki that is 1,692 words long.)

And now that I’ve linked to that last wiki, I would like to welcome all of my new NSA analyst readers. I hope you enjoy this entirely pro-American, patriotic blog where you will find nothing objectionable at all. Ever.

Star Wars

The latest rumors involving two actors being looked at for key roles.

Following up on their claims that actors like Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron have been looked at for roles in the new Star Wars film, Latino Review is now saying that the production is now considering actors Alex Pettyfer and Rachel Hurd-Wood for roles in the sci-fi movie.

While the site doesn’t have any information regarding the character that Pettyfer is going out for, their guess is that he is trying out for the part of Luke Skywalker’s son (which, mind you, isn’t a character that has been confirmed to be in the movie)…

But while the site’s sources don’t seem to have any confirmed details about the character that Pettyfer is looking to play, they are a bit more specific about Hurd-Wood’s potential part. The rumor says that she has gone in to read for the “daughter of Princess Leia (and presumably Han Solo).”

So, yeah. They appear to be very pretty people. But I’m sure the same could be said for the last batch of actors they cast for the prequels, so I remain unmoved either way. Besides, tomorrow will probably bring a new casting rumor, so I wouldn’t put much stock in this until Disney starts talking. (Note to our new NSA analyst readers, I know it’s probably against regulations, but if you could just give me a hint as to what Disney is doing with Episode VII, I’ll buy you a six pack.)

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Well, they found their villain. It is not, as previously anticipated, Paul Bettany, but is:

James Spader will face off against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as the villain in Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the sequel to 2012’s record-breaking “Marvel’s The Avengers.” The Emmy Award-winning actor will play Ultron in the Avengers’ much anticipated return to the big screen from writer/director Joss Whedon. The film comes to theaters on May 1, 2015.

Batman v. Superman

There is a rumor that Timothy Dalton will be taking on the role of Alfred in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel. If true, that would instantly make the movie a little bit better sounding to me. Dude was awesome in Hot Fuzz and the Rocketeer. And I’ll be contrary and say that I even liked his Bond movies.
