We are very pro-life here…

Welcome to America.

We are very pro-life here.

Mind the bodies. COVID, you know… nothing to be done. Mandates? No, here we encourage people to do their own research on Infowars.

But we very much believe in the sanctity of life.

Kindly, keep your gaze from the ghosts on the right. They perished from the guns we make and sell. Many find their accusatory stares of the children to be discomfiting.

Personally, I don’t get it. There’s nothing we could do to stop it.

Every human life is precious and created in the image of God.

To your left, you’ll see the gallows where criminals are executed.

Yes, sir, unlike those godless countries, we value human beings.

Those? Oh, those are the ghosts of people who were killed by our police.

Guess they should have complied, am I right?

Every child is precious to us.

To your right, you’ll see the cemetery where the war dead are buried. It’s quite large.

We’re adding more space every day.

But life is precious to us.

Mind the hungry moochers over there. No, giving them anything to eat will just make them lazy and entitled.

Some people just don’t want to work for a living.

Yes, we love God and we love life here.

Guns…

Leaving home to go pick up my daughter from school a few days ago and I heard a bunch of sirens maybe a block or two over on the main road and my first thought is instantly “active shooter”.

I fucking hate that.

And I fucking hate that my kids have done active shooter drills. I hate that both my son and daughter have said that their greatest fear is a shooter coming to their schools. And I’ve never shared my fears with them. This is just the world they live in now.

I hate that if I go out, I mentally plot out ways to the emergency exits. Malls, movie theaters, restaurants. I’m not obsessed about it, but the thought ALWAYS crosses my mind at least once.

“What would I do if…?”

I hate what the NRA has become. I hate the toxic gun culture and the culture of indifference, greed, and bullying that tolerates it.

And I really fucking hate guns now. Didn’t used to. Now I do.

And now I do want to take them all away, crush ’em, melt ’em down, turn them into playgrounds, appliances, or car parts.

I know it’ll never happen here in America. The tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of first graders, movie goers, and beauticians from time to time after all…

Twinkle, Twinkle…

Take a look at this.

Take a long look at this.

I wrote something today about the monsters out there just waiting to explode.

Look at what we’ve made our country into.

It’s a place where little children have to live in fear of a murderer with a gun.

It’s a place where we have to teach children that we’re not going to do anything to stop the murderers, so they should learn a horrific song about what to do when the monsters come.

That’s what you’ve made America.

I hope you’re really fucking proud of yourself, right now.

And if you’re a Christian, maybe instead of shouting about your rights and your freedoms, you should think once again about what the cross means. About self-sacrifice. About laying down your rights to help others.

And think about what Jesus would do.

He watches…

We tell our children that monsters don’t exist, but we lie.

In a town, he waits.

He is unassuming. You would not notice him if you passed him on the street. You do not notice him as he sits behind you in your college class or churches. You don’t notice him at the Wal-mart. Maybe you ride the bus or the subway together. You don’t notice him. He never seems to notice you.

Or maybe you do. Maybe you smile at him one morning. He smiles back or nods his head and you move on.  Maybe you notice him staring at you and he makes you uncomfortable. But you have dealt with creeps before. You forget him after you step off the bus and arrive at work or the store.

He waits.

He walks past the school where you drop your children off every weekday morning. He walks by your child’s high school.

And he waits.

Maybe he went to that high school. Maybe he was bullied. Maybe he bullied others. Maybe he walked through the halls like a ghost, never seen, never noticed. Maybe he had friends who cared for him.

But he waited. And he seethed.

And now he walks by the school every morning. He seethes.

The laughing and the smiling faces of your children make him angry. He watches you hug them and kiss them on the cheek and he seethes.

And he waits.

The anger and the pain fester.

He waits. Unknown. Unseen.

But he sees you.

And he waits.

He waits until the anger and pain rage within and he wants to share his anger and pain with the world.

With you.

With your children.

He stops waiting.

He walks to your child’s school.

He brings his guns.

We continue to pretend that monsters don’t exist.

Religion and guns…

Look, I don’t want to get into the philosophical debate of self-defense and whether or not such a thing is permissible to Christians. There are many words written on that discussion already.

All I want to say is that even if you have the right to own all of the guns you want, maybe ‘humbling yourself’ and ‘loving your neighbor’ might entail being willing to have limits on your rights so your neighbors don’t have to bury their children.

And maybe that impulse to object and say, “But my rights!” is a part of the old human nature?

Just something to think about, Christians.

Oh, come on…

Contrary to what some of my friends might think, this doesn’t upset me. It’s only natural, after all, that people with a strong interest might want to visit a dating site where they can find people who share that interest. And while I may think that it’s far too easy for people to get their hands on a lethal instrument of death and are gun laws and enforcement are criminally lax, I’m not opposed to people finding true love.

No, what disappoints me is that they didn’t go with calling their site: E-arm-ony: Your best shot at finding true love.

Come on, guys, it was right there.

If…

If this 353rd mass shooting had been committed by Bob from Accounting instead of Syed, Republicans would have already told us to move on and would have forgotten about it.

Body Armor America

Can doctor’s ask now if you own a gun?

Beaumont police officers are investigating an apparent accidental shooting Monday morning at the Christus Outpatient Pavilion located in the 700 block of 11th Street.

A witness told KCEN’s sister station 12News that a woman was in the waiting room of a medical office.  When she reached into her purse to pull out some paperwork, a gun fell out of her purse causing it to discharge. The round went through a wall and hit another patient in the hip.

The only way to stop a bad banana with a gun…

Two men were transported to the hospital after a shooting at Griner’s Supermarket in Hazel Green.

The owner of Griner’s Supermarket said a shopper’s gun fell to the floor and discharged. When it went off, the shopper and another man were hit.

American Exceptionalism, folks… stay safe, wear your vest, and duck and cover out there.

Nothing more to say…

There is really nothing to say anymore.

Two more dead bodies. Two more families crying. Friends mourning. Bodies buried. Soon to be nothing more than a statistic to most people.

Sympathies sent. So sorry. Nothing to be done. Could have happened to anyone. But it didn’t. It happened to you.

Your family just won the deadly national lottery this time. No money. Just pain to carry with you forever. Empty chair at holidays. A dinner plate left in the cupboard.

If this were a warzone, you’d get a state burial and flag, but it’s the greatest country on Earth, so you get nothing. Unless one of your neighbors brings you a casserole.

Don’t politicize it.

Don’t blame the gun.

I don’t. I blame the apologists. I blame the co-conspirators. I blame the accomplices that made it so easy for angry young men and women to arm themselves with the engine of death. Death dealing is profitable, so the cycle goes on.

A lottery with no winners, but the ones that profit from human misery.

Nothing more to say.

God damn it all.

Your handy guide to the gun control debate, brought to you by posts on my Facebook feed:

We need to stop this madness and pass stricter gun laws to try and stop these nihilists and  lunatics from getting weapons that can kill dozens of people.

Well, what about knives or cars? He could have easily killed that many people with knives and cars as he could with a gun!

No, he couldn’t. Unless you’re a ninja or a circus performer, killing someone with a knife requires you to be up close and personal or take someone by surprise. Meaning once the first body or two hit the floor, everyone could run away from the man with bloody hands.

It’s also much easier to defend against a knife than it is a gun.

And cars have a hard time going up stairs or getting into buildings.

Gun laws won’t stop every lunatic from getting a gun.

So we shouldn’t try and stop any of them?

That’s not what I’m saying, but, ah… look at Chicago and Washington DC! They have strict gun laws and a high rate of gun violence!

Yes, because it’s rather easy to leave the city limits and go get a gun where it’s easier to buy one. That is the point of calling for NATIONAL legislation that would tighten gun laws.

But the Second Amendment!?

Very few people are calling for a general gun ban. Most of us just want Congress to start dealing with the part of the amendment that calls for a “Well-Regulated” militia. That’s the part that the NRA and you guys seem to skip when quoting the 2nd amendment.

But if they take all of our guns, what will happen when America becomes a dictatorship?

That seems unlikely outside of a Red Dawn type fantasy, but if it happened, then, then I guess we’ll have to attack the military with knives and cars which you say can do just as much damage as a gun, right?

Or, you know, we’re not actually talking about taking all of your guns. So you’ll still have your shotgun and .45 to protect you from a Predator drone strike.

Well, if everyone were armed, there’d be no gun massacres there. It’s gun free zones that are the problem!

Leaving aside that Oregon allows people with concealed carry permits to carry on campus and that those who were decided not to intervene because they were too far away or didn’t want to be accidentally shot by police mistakenly believing they were the active shooter, and aside from the idea that somehow unleashing the amateur Dirty Harrys, Barney Fifes, and George Zimmermans among us will result in safer streets, and aside from the confusion it will cause the police in knowing which of the people with guns they should be shooting, and aside from the wisdom of having a shootout in a crowded theater or restaurant or even open space where bullets don’t know when to stop if they miss the target, we should probably note that despite being a rather heavily armed group of men and women, the United States army still loses many soldiers to gun fire as they patrol hostile, gun filled areas.

You can be armed and trained and still die before you even know you should draw your weapon.

What about home defense? Or the zombie apocalypse?

WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT TAKING AWAY YOUR GOD DAMNED GUNS, OKAY?! Keep your guns secured. Keep them out of the hands of toddlers and children. Don’t carry them into Chipotle. In short, be responsible.

We simply want to try and stop these nihilists and lunatics from getting their hands on weapons that can easily kill dozens of people very quickly without warning.

And if the zombie apocalypse happens, there will be an awful lot of zombies who died because of a yahoo with a gun who will probably be pissed about it. Good luck with them.
